Your desert experience begins with a pickup in Ouarzazate and a scenic drive to the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed fortified village that has served as the backdrop for movies like Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. After exploring its winding alleys and historic architecture, continue to the palm-dotted oasis of Skoura to visit the beautifully restored Kasbah Amridil.

As the journey continues along the legendary Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, you’ll pass through the Valley of Roses, known for its fragrant blooms and rosewater products. Enjoy the mountain scenery as you head toward the Dades Valley before arriving at the Todra Gorges. Here, you’ll settle in for the night in a local riad or hotel.

After breakfast, take time to explore the dramatic cliffs of the Todra Gorges, a favorite for climbers and photographers. Then journey through Tinghir, Tinjdad, and the Oasis of Tafilalet as you approach the Sahara. Along the way, stop at the ancient underground irrigation channels (khettaras) and marvel at their ingenuity.

In Erfoud, discover fossil workshops where ancient marine life is crafted into beautiful decor pieces. Continue to Rissani, the historic seat of the current royal Alaouite dynasty, and then toward the edge of the dunes in Merzouga.

After a warm welcome with mint tea at your desert camp, mount your camel and trek across the golden sands to watch the sunset over Erg Chebbi. Enjoy a traditional dinner and music by the fire before spending the night in a luxury Berber tent under the starry sky.

Today is dedicated to discovering the life and landscapes of the Sahara. After breakfast, embark on a 4x4 tour around the dunes, starting with the twin oases of Merzouga and continuing to Khamlia village, home to the Gnaoua people—descendants of African slaves known for their spiritual music.

Next, visit the Mifiss mines, meet nomadic families still living in the desert, and explore the arid black desert landscapes and fossil-rich plains near Tissardmine. Return to your hotel in Merzouga for a relaxed evening and optional second night in the camp or local lodge.

Rise early to catch the incredible sunrise over the dunes, a magical moment not to be missed. After breakfast, begin your journey back toward Ouarzazate.
