On our second day of the 10-day desert tour from Agadir, after a seaside morning in Essaouira, head inland toward Marrakech. Along the way, travel through forests of argan trees, often dotted with tree-climbing goats, and visit local women's cooperatives producing argan oil. Arrive in Marrakech by evening and settle into your riad in the heart of the red city.

Explore Marrakech with a local guide. Visit the ornate Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and the El Badi Palace ruins. See the impressive Koutoubia Mosque and stroll through the historic Jewish Quarter (Mellah). Visit the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque—one of the largest in the world—before a relaxed evening stroll along the seaside Corniche.

Your journey continues north to Rabat, the elegant capital of Morocco. Visit the royal Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Andalusian-style Oudayas Kasbah. Then travel inland to Meknes, an imperial city famed for its grand gates, stables, and Moulay Ismail’s mausoleum. After lunch, make your way to Fes, where you’ll spend the night in a charming riad in the medina.

Begin your day with a drive through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, passing through Ifrane—known as Morocco’s “Little Switzerland.” Stop in Azrou to meet wild Barbary macaques and continue to Midelt, nestled between the mountains. Your final destination today is Imilchil, a remote Berber village famous for its lakes and tribal traditions. Enjoy dinner and peaceful overnight stay near Lake Tislit.

Travel through spectacular mountain scenery to reach the dramatic Todgha Gorges—towering canyon walls carved by the river. After lunch near the gorge, head southeast to Erfoud and then to Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara Desert. Mount your camel and ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes to your luxury desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional dinner and live music under the stars.

Wake up early to witness the Sahara sunrise, then return by camel to Merzouga village. Visit Rissani’s traditional market before continuing through Alnif and N’Kob to the Draa Valley. Admire the palm groves and kasbahs scattered along the valley, then head to Ait Benhaddou—one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse overlooking the kasbah.

After breakfast, visit the famous kasbah, known for its role in movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Then continue through Taznakht—renowned for Berber carpets—and stop in Taliouine, Morocco’s saffron capital. Visit the local saffron museum or, if traveling in October, join in the annual saffron harvest festivities. Arrive in Taroudant, a charming city often called “Little Marrakech,” and settle into your riad.
